Negative taken of young girls probably during their First Communion standing in front of the Shrine of Pur Blessed Mother at Saint Peter's Church in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas. Constructed in 1903 as the second church with this name, St. Peter's Church was designed by T.E. Windham, an African American architect. Located at the corner of 16th Avenue and State Street in Pine Bluff, St. Peter's Church's congregation was primarily African American. The church was associated with St. Peter's School, which opened in 1889 as the Colored Industrial Institute.
